The purposes of the COUNCIL shall be:

To promote the development of the quality of medical education in medicine and other courses of study in the health sciences, located in the MERCOSUR and Latin
America through the accreditation processes.

B. To promote mechanisms of voluntary assessment of the university institutions mentioned above.

C. To promote, establish and contribute to set standards or quality standards applicable to them.

D. To promote and contribute to the improvement, training and ethics adaptation of these institutions.

E. To support and technical cooperate with other programs aimed at raising awareness of the need of systems, standards and reliable procedures for institutional accreditation as well as of quality improvement in medical education.

F. To develop, analyze and evaluate the accreditation processes of University Institutions of Medical Sciences, Courses of Study and Postgraduate Programs (masters, residences, etc.) and of their own services which other entities may request with similar objectives.

G. To advise on quality standards of University Institutions of Medical Sciences, Courses of Study and Postgraduate Programs, keeping updated on the development of the criteria used through their own contribution, through scientific societies and specialized experts.

H. To develop, analyze and support innovative programs or new alternatives appearing in the field of institutional accreditation.

I. To collaborate with agencies, sectors and government agencies in order to obtain acceptance, promotion and compliance with the necessary standards for this Council’ accreditation from University Institutions of Medical Sciences, especially in the institutional area.

J. To publicize through publications, the accreditations issued and the results achieved as a result of the implementation of the accreditation scheme.

K. To develop and promote persons and institutions’ training in areas relating to the objectives set forth in the bylaws.
